I was trying to build a collection of souvenir money like my friends Yume & Curtis have but was not as successful! I'll keep trying... this is taken in 2009 of their collection.... mine is 1/8 this size.... :(
My first international travel and I was building a collection of crisp bills for my istock photography but lost them.... so sad....
Asakusa has narrow lanes, old wooden houses, craft stores, sanctuaries and a mossy cemetery..... my Mentor, Lee Peterson, told me not to miss this place. We saw Rickshaw carriages and I got a pair of Ninja black toe shoes....
The number of people in this city is astounding! One cannot image it without seeing it. The one thing that is super impressive however, they do not eat in public, talk on cell phones in public and are very respectful of others presences. It's sort of shocking really. They will always have headphones on and texting away on cell phones but the quietness of the city for the amount of people is impressive. When the train doors close I'm embarrassed to snap away because the shutter of my camera is the only noise...and Marty and I giggle cause it sounds soooooo loud! Ofcourse no one notices cause they have headphones on...ha! Silly me! You'll see train photos in another blog...but it's super crowded. Certainly would be nice if American could have this amazing courtesy.
Micky Mouse, Snoopy & Hello Kitty are everywhere regardless of age or gender.... it's really cool! Cell phone covers, trinkets, jewelry, bracelets...etc..
My Dad's Alzheimer's is taking the best of him and now he is in the hospital with pneumonia in both lungs, dehydrated and likely his days are few....I spoke with my Mom this morning (AM Tokyo time... afternoon in NC USA) My Mom has been strong during these last few months. Sixty plus years they have been best friends and side by side... always enjoying the simple pleasures together.
This is a man who was with Special Forces during WWII, received A Bronze Star and farmed the lands of North Carolina and absolutely loved little Children. A gentle soft spoken man of Cherokee land, maintained physical fitness of his youth thru-out his life.
I sit here in a hotel far away and wonder why the exit in life cannot be more graceful and honorable as the life itself? Grateful I have time to ponder these thoughts and come to terms with the details of it all.
This song by Paul Peterson has always been a favorite since I was a little girl in the 60's....
My Dad Lyrics
musician: Paul Petersen
He isn't much in the eyes of the world He'll never make history No, he isn't much in the eyes of the world But he is the world to me
My dad, now here is a man To me he is everything strong No, he can't do wrong, my dad
My dad, now he understands When I bring him troubles to share Oh, he's always there, my dad
When I was small I felt ten feet tall When I walked by his side And everyone would say "That's his son" And my heart would burst with pride
My dad, oh I love him so And I only hope that some day My own son will say "My dad now here is a man"
Paul Petersen - My Dad Lyrics

Continued from Friday.... the most peaceful place being the Meiji Shrine surrounded by giant old trees..... well come out, cross the bridge and welcome to the Funky Town....mobs of people.... a young fashion trendy uptown walk thru the streets and allys....
I was able to get around the city without getting lost.... Marty finished work early and took me to Japanese lunch ...first Japanese food I have had since I left San Diego.
Marty took me to the Meji Shrine located amist hundreds of year old trees that quiet the noise of the
city and all you can hear is the peaceful sounds of nature. You would never know you are still
right in the heart of the giant city of Toyko.
There were several weddings going on and got some cool and fun photos. One little girl loved having her photo taken and did some posing for me.
Marty is having a blast using my coolest lens 18-200 and can really zoom in and get some
great shots! Makes it fun to share cause I'm using wide-angle and fisheye.... completely different perspectives... I LOVE these shots he got!

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone I can see all obstacles in my way Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun shiny day
I think I can make it now, the pain is gone All of the bad feelings have disappeared Here is the rainbow I've been prayin' for It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun shiny day
Look all around, there's nothin' but blue skies Look straight ahead, nothin' but blue skies
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone I can see all obstacles in my way Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun shiny day
Much brighter day today.... I was able to walk to my destination in 4 min that took me 4 hours in pouring rain...lost and
cold and blew out my tennis shoes...... got no walking shoes and does not appear they are popular in Toyko. Still an
It is suppose to be sunshine today.... the only day I'm here.... So once again, I'll go out into the sea of buildings and scurry like all the other people going someplace.
Marty used his GPS to find his way thru the maze.... he will show me some tips hopefully this afternoon for taking the train and hopefully a more peaceful scenic place than mile high wall to wall buildings. If not, I'll put my fisheye lens on and view the earth filled with skyscrapers.
I have my landmarks now and maybe I will be more successful today than before. So far it's been a tearful experience and I don't cry easily.
It rained first 2 days.. The people are slow to get to know but eventually warm and friendly like Korea. I was lost for hours in the pouring rain... I brought one pair of shoes that are now drenched completely thru. I've not found Zen here yet.... It's a lot of people, umbrellas, bicycles, cars, and tall buildings.
Very Pretty at night time and My favorite food is Japanese food but my husband does not like the food much...so far we eat in the hotel mostly.....He's a world traveler and I've not had much international experience and finding it hard to figure out what is going on and the pace is so fast.... can't really stop to think cause the sidewalks are moving alive with people at hurried pace...sometimes running, bicycling and they may be small but they know where they are going.... and there is not much room to step aside. The rains and sea of umbrellas made it more difficult to see where you are going and cold and wet too.
My feet are soaked, my hair is frizzed, I asked directions of 2 cap drives, 5 police/security guards with a Hilton card and Nishi-Shinjuku-6-chrome Shinjuku-ku and they could only show me where I was on the
map in Japanese..... OMG.... what a first couple of days....
Everything about Korea was peaceful and beautiful. I really enjoyed it. The people were the best part... gorgeous and friendly! The fashion was stunning! I love the look!
Now in Japan.... a new atmosphere..... big big city and lots of hustle and bustle.... everything is moving.... beautifully manicured from landscape to foods...
iPhone, iPad or computer.....
The bathroom... heated seats and lots of action here too....
I went out to Namdaemum Traditional Marketplace at 8AM and the shop keepers were setting up...streets were quite..except for bicycles and motorcycle delivering supplies.....I was out of there by 9AM ...it was so full of people could barely move.... going back to check out more..... there seems to be no end to the streets, undergrounds, and corners with shops and more shops....
Seeing Cami in this spot over the weekend... One of my favorite quotes quickly came to mind.....
Peace.... it does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and stillbe calm in your heart.....
