This is my second year to Aspen Groves near Big Bear. Last year there was snow and the leaves were at peak when I went in Mid-October... this year, it was like an Indian Summer Day and on the down side of Aspen colors with a blanket of yellow pedals covering the ground...
But peak the Rim of the World drive... Ahhh the Maples... it was stunning! Then did the big loop coming home at sunset on the Crest way with LA Basin and a bright Orange Sunset... no tripod for the sunset light, just my G10 but beautiful colors.

Local Photographer Helps Less Fortunate - Blair Simmons
A group of celebrity photographers put together an unusual photo shoot Friday. But they weren't just taking pictures - they were shooting for something deeper. When Jaremy Cowart points his camera, it's usually at celebrities like Britney Spears or Sting... but on this day..."You just gotta work it -- you've gotta own the camera," directs Cowart. ... His subjects are 37 women from the Nashville Rescue Mission. Like Chrysanthia Netherton..."I'm the middle child of 14! So I'm getting my OWN recognition today!!!" says Netherton. Most of these women haven't had their pictures taken in years. "Almost, oh... whoa! 25 years ago? It's been a while," she says. But today, these women who normally get overlooked were the center of attention. "I feel beautiful... absolutely beautiful," she says. As a little girl, Melissa Caldwell used to wonder what it would be like to model. Today... even if it is just for the day, she gets her chance. "I had dreams but never thought it would happen... but it's happening and it's amazing. I love it," says Caldwell. "Just like I would any normal subject I'm encouraging them to work the camera, smile, to feel beautiful - this is all about them - this is THEIR day to feel special," says Cowart. It's called Help-Portrait. It's an idea Cowart came up with when he wondered how HE could serve those in need. These portraits are his gift. This was a dry run for the International Help-Portrait event happening December 12th. On a whim, Cowart Twittered about the idea to his friends. To his surprise, thousands of photographers across the globe responded."It spread like wildfire we now have people in over 40 countries and 35 states! It's kind of blowing our minds," says Cowart. If a picture is worth a thousand words, an emotional Netherton says this is what her portrait would say:"Today I find worth in my life - I feel very loved. Very happy.... happiest I've been in my whole life."Local Photographer Helps Less Fortunate - Blair Simmons

My profession is always to be alert, to find God in nature, to know God's lurking places, to attend to all the oratorios and the operas in nature. -Henry David Thoreau:
Drifters song: Up On the Roof:
When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right into space
On the roof, it's peaceful as can be
And there the world below can't bother me
Let me tell you now
When I come home feelin' tired and beat
I go up where the air is fresh and sweet (up on the roof)
I get away from the hustling crowd
And all that rat-race noise down in the street (up on the roof)
On the roof, the only place I know
Where you just have to wish to make it so
Let's go up on the roof (up on the roof)
At night the stars put on a show for free
And, darling, you can share it all with me
I keep a-tellin' you
Right smack dab in the middle of town
I've found a paradise that's trouble proof (up on the roof)
And if this world starts getting you down
There's room enough for two
Up on the roof (up on the roof)
Up on the roo-oo-oof (up on the roof)
Oh, come on, baby (up on the roof)
Oh, come on, honey (up on the roof)

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. -Anne Frank
